New York. February 14. Mr. Nazir S Bhatti, Chief of Pakistan Christian
Congress and chairman Martyr Feroz Masih Award Committee announced
today the first awards in memory of the sacrifice of Martyr Feroz
Masih who was killed by the Karachi Police firing on peaceful protest
procession of PCC against Shanti Nager village attack by the Muslim
fundamental group on February 13, 1997 before Sindh Governor House.
The PCC central council at meeting in Karachi passed a resolution
to inaugurate Shaheed Feroz Masih Award for remembrance of his precious
life sacrifice for Christians in Pakistan. The resolution also added
to press for the demand of the arrests of the killer police officials
involved to gun down Feroze Masih and injuring many on Feb. 13,
1997. This is the first award nomination, which shall be continued
in future every year in month of February, and award distribution
ceremony shall be held in Pakistan and also in the foreign countries
as per decision of Martyr Feroz Masih Award Committee.
Mr. Emmanuel Zafar Advocate Ex MNA was nominated for Christians
Leadership and Lifetime community rights Struggle.
Mr. Dr. Tahir Ul Quadri MNA and Chief of PAT awarded for his services
and recognition on Christian Muslim Dialogues in Pakistan on establishment
of Muslim Christian Dialogue Commission and inviting the Christian
counterparts of commission to perform their services in Mosque at
Lahore as gesture of harmony for the first time in history of sub
continent of India.
Mr. Khan Abdul wali Khan, nominated on his national services to
all the citizens of Pakistan irrespective of race, creed, colour
and religion as committed, progressive and liberal leader in Pakistan.
Mr. Professor salamat Akhter nominated for his educational services
for Christians. He is now the principal of CTI Sialkot.
Mr. Salim Baloch, VP of Jamhouri Watan Party nominated for his
services in Muslim Christian political coordination's in Pakistan
by raising Christian issues in absence on all political forums with
instruction of JWP chief Nawab Mohammad Akber Khan Bugti.
Rev Fr. Emmanuel Asi nominated for his courageous writings on Liberation
Theology and precious services of Catholic congregations in Pakistan.
Rt Rev. Bishop T. Nasir nominated for his religious leadership
in Pakistan as Moderator of United Presbyterian Church in Pakistan.
His evangelical and pro-life writings as Editor of Monthly Klam
e Haq from Gujranwali and Rector of Theological seminary are counted
as outstanding services for the protestant churches in Pakistan.
Martyr Aslam Martin nominated for the award on his services as
community coordinator in Pakistan during his life. He was working
as community coordinator with Christian establishment " Justice
and Peace" at Karachi when he was killed by fundamental Muslim
group in his office along with six other Christian workers on September
25, 2002.
Mr. Dr. Stephen Gill was awarded the Peace literature award. He
is author of 25 books and his poetry for peace is recognized world
over. He is based in Canada.
Mr. Manzoor Alam was nominated for award on best achievement in
business as a Christian businessman. His business is in North America
and Pakistani Christian community in USA is grateful for his services
in their rehabilitation.
Late Mr. Lazar Bhatti nominated for his special services to Christians
in Pakistan. He was VP of Pakistan Christian Congress and served
the community for decades. He led many Christian protests and staged
hunger strikes for equal basic democratic rights for Christians
in Pakistan. He passed away during Christmas celebration function
of 1990 organized by the New Karachi Christian community.
Late Mr. Shakeel Bhatti was nomination of award on his special
services for Christians in Pakistan as PCC leader in capacity of
Information secretary. He traveled in far-flung areas of Pakistan
to organize Christians on gross root levels.
Late Mr. Salim Masih Khokhar nominated for his leadership of community
in Pakistan. He served as VP of PCC for decades and led Christian
rallies and hunger strikes against blasphemy laws in Pakistan. He
died at Korangi Karachi in 1992.
Mr. Parvez Bazi was nominated for his religious poetry. He is musician,
singer and drama writer from Sialkot. The all Pakistani Christians
recognize his services for Catholic Church in Pakistan.
Mr. Younas Youhanna was nominated for his outstanding services
in Sports. He is first Local Christian in national team of cricket
in Pakistan. His outstanding performance resulted in success for
Pakistan Cricket team in many international matches.
Mr. William Shahzad was nominated for the award of best community
services abroad. He is living in North America serving the Christian
immigrants and organizing Christian rallies in New York on Christian
persecutions in Pakistan from last 12 years.
Mr. Nasir saeed nominated for the services for revival of Human
Rights for Christians in Pakistan. He is coordinator of CLAAS UK
and have published research report about human right abuses in Pakistan
by the name of ' Faith under Fire". He is based in London
Mr. Dr. salim was nominated for his special services for Christian
youth in Pakistan. He was based in Drig Road Karachi and rests in
peace by stroke.
The Martyr Feroze Masih award ceremony shall be held at Karachi
to distribute these awards. The medals shall be given to many other
Christian social, religious, political leaders during this ceremony.
